Searching for Job

Searching for a Job may be hectic task for beginners. After finishing your education you are stepping in a new world of 'working'. You should understand that it is not always possible to get a job on your very first Interview. You should not be disappointed if you were not selected after an Interview. Rather you could take this as an opportunity to learn your mistakes and rectify them in your next interviews in some other companies. If you follow a strategy discussed hereunder you may find searching for Jobs easier than before.

Classified Ads

Classified Ads in the daily newspapers are the traditional source of finding Jobs. Despite the 'Wanted columns" daily, many newspapers also have a special edition running on once a week where jobs listings are categorized based on industries. You may find job openings for entry level, intermediate-level and high-level job seekers. Some employers ask the candidates to send a resume by post or email and few others may ask to walk-in to their office at a specified time.

Recruitment Agency

You can consult some 'Recruitment Agencies" who have wide network of contacts with potential employers. They may charge a nominal fee for this service or some may get paid by the Employer itself for referring a successful candidate (which in case you are not charged).

Networking

Networking is a tricky task in finding jobs. You can network with your friends, family members, relatives or neighbors. When you speak with someone you can let them know that you are searching for job if they happen to know about any opening matching yours they would surely inform you. You can also contact persons who have similar interests or who are in the same industry (try linkedin.com).

Online Job Portals

There are lots of websites that connect job seekers with employers. They provide a search tool where you can search for job openings based on the following parameters:

  1. Location
  2. Job Titles
  3. Experience Level
  4. Salary
  5. Some other keywords

On top of the "search feature" they also encourage to upload you resume to their database so that when a potential employer browses your resume they may contact you directly. If you subscribe for their mailing lists you would get job openings matching your skills and industry.

Career Section

You can visit the websites of leading companies in your industry. Say for instance you are in IT (Software) industry you could try browsing the websites of Software companies. In their website you could find a section for "Job openings" or "Careers". The page would reveal whether they have any opening that point of time. If yes, then what positions are open. You may send your resume via email or the online form or call the respective phone number as per the information found there.

Job Fairs

You can participate in Job fairs conducted in your college or in your residential area. Many companies hire employees by conducting campus interview in Colleges. Chances are more to get a job thru this. If you are participating in a big job fair (outside your college) it is better that you carry multiple photocopies of your resume as there would be many employers who may be looking for candidates with your skillset. Remember don't panic by seeing the huge crowd!
